P4KVS: A Role-Replica Separation Offloading Method to Achieve In-Network Consistency for KV Stores Based on P4 Switches

Summary: P4KVS offloads only the Raft Leader into a P4 programmable switch while keeping Followers on servers, using role–replica separation to provide linearizable in‑network consensus without exposing DB internals and preserving LevelDB/etcd compatibility. It achieves up to 74% of single‑node LevelDB write throughput and 222% for reads, delivering 37.5× higher read throughput and 3520× lower write latency vs etcd, showing strong consistency at near‑or‑better than single‑node performance.
